Straight out of the University of Nairobi in 1995, Igathe was employed in far-flung Australia as a finance officer at Queensland Health in Australia. He returned to Kenya a year and a half later and took up employment with global soft drink giant Coca-Cola, where he worked until 2000.
He then joined Africa Online as a sales and marketing manager. Africa Online which he made a full fledged online system which provides subscribers with access to entertainment and productivity services such as local and Internet mail (including universal conferencing via Usenet Newsgroups and chat sessions) at prices and quality that are unmatched in the Kenyan marketplace.
He was then hired by Kenya Breweries Limited, working as sales operations manager and then as marketing manager. East African Breweries Limited, commonly referred to as EABL, is a Kenya’s largest brewer that manufactures branded beer, spirits, and non-alcoholic beverages
He then worked as the managing director at Haco Industries for ten years. Haco Industries Kenya Limited is a Kenyan personal and home care products manufacturer that distributes its products in the countries of the East African Community and in the Comesa Region
He joined Petroleum giant Vivo Energy Kenya, in 2013as the Vice President. Vivo is Shell and Engen licensee in Africa. Vivo Energy is the company behind Shell and Engen brands in Africa focused on fuelling Africa’s future.
Igathe chaired the Kenya Association of Manufacturers, from 2012 until 2014. The Kenya Association of Manufacturers has a history of top notch leadership and the current chair of the Board of Directors is Mucai Kunyiha and the current Vice Chair is Rajan Shah.
He also chaired the Petroleum Institute of East Africa, from 2014 until 2016. The institute creates public and consumer awareness on basic Environment, Health and Safety issues touching on handling and use of petroleum products.
Other responsibilities include as Director and Trustee of the Kenya Private Sector Alliance, from 2014 until 2016 and as chairman and member of the Board of Management of Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls High School since 2010.
He was appointed to chair the Anti-Counterfeit Agency in 2015, where he served for a year. He was then appointed chairman Special Economic Zones Authority of Kenya in October 2016.
2020 after resigning as Deputy Governor of Nairobi County under Mike Sonko now facing corruption cases. Igathe rejoined Equity PLC as group COO la.er promoted to become the Managing Director.
Overall Igathe is a solid, tested no nonsense manager. Nairobi needs a manager NOT a raw politician.
